Stafford Rangers defender Jermaine Johnson has targeted Saturday's home game with Guiseley to return after ruling himself out of the visit of Solihull Moors.

There was a very slim chance the centre-half could have been back for tomorrow's first home game of the season, but the club are actively preparing for the match without him.

Rangers will not take any chances with his hamstring injury in the hope of not aggravating it further, so have told Johnson to take it easy as they play the waiting game for him to return to action.

Johnson is due to be assessed at the game with Solihull tomorrow night but has no chance of taking part.

He said: "It's a bit better, but we will see properly how it's doing tomorrow. I am going to be doing a bit of work before the game, some more afterwards and I will know more then.

"But I am hoping to be back on Saturday, it's so frustrating to be out but it's like a lot of my team-mates have been telling me - it's a marathon not a sprint."

Rangers went down 1-0 at Boston United on Saturday in their Blue Square North season opener, Anthony Church's 31st minute header enough to secure a win for the promoted hosts.

Johnson, meanwhile, was a frustrated spectator as Mark Dudley and loan signing Harry Davis held the fort at the back.

He said: "It was a typical first game of the season - a bit frantic. Boston are a good team but we could have nicked a draw, we probably just lacked a bit of composure in front of goal.

"This is a tight division, anyone can beat anyone in this league."
