Another award for Bert Williams

Wolves great Bert Williams was back on the Molineux pitch on Saturday - getting his hands on another award.

The 90-year-old goalkeeping legend returned to the club as the special guest of chairman Steve Morgan for the opening Premier League game against Stoke to receive an engraved decanter.

The award was in recognition of being awarded the MBE for his services to charity and football in the Queen's Birthday Honours List in June.

Bert was presented with his decanter by current goalkeeper Matt Murray at half-time of the match - which Wolves won 2-1 - and given a warm ovation from the 27,850 crowd, most of whom weren't born when he played in the 1940s and 1950s.

Bert, who was accompanied by his son Paul in the boardroom with Mr Morgan, said: "It was a lovely occasion for me at Molineux on Saturday, especially seeing Wolves get the new season off to a winning start.

"The club was so kind and I shall treasure the beautiful decanter presented to me by my good friend Matt Murray.

"Also I deeply appreciate the wonderful reception given to me by the fans at half-time.

"I wish Wolves a highly successful season."

It was a real family occasion too for Bert, because while Paul joined his dad in the director's box, other son Vaughan sat in his father's seat in the Billy Wright Stand.
