Albion new-boy Boaz Myhill insists he can keep Wolves youngster Wayne Hennessey out of the Wales team despite starting the season on the Baggies bench.

Myhill looked set to lose out to captain Scott Carson in the battle to start in the season opener at Chelsea.

But the former Hull man, who has edged ahead of Hennessey in the race to be Wales No.1, believes he can hang on to his international spot.

"I don't really concern myself with the negative side of things," insisted Myhill.

"I came here because it is a great challenge, because I want to improve and because I see Scott as a great rival. I'm already getting on very well with him.

"He's a great lad around the place. At the start of last season both me and Wayne were playing in the Premier League.

"That was good for both us and I'm sure John Toshack (Wales manager) will look to see if one of us can get into a first team and nail down a place.

"You like to think that will give you a head start but my man priority is to work hard, show people what I can do and hopefully get in the West Brom side."

And Myhill admitted he faces a tough time trying to oust skipper Carson from the Baggies goal.

"I've come to the club because I want to improve and find out how good I can be," he said.

"There are already a couple of very good goalkeepers here so it's up to me.

"I've been given the opportunity by the club and now it's up to me.

"It's the nature of the game.

"Everyone wants to play and not everyone can.

"I was given no assurances by the manager that I was going to walk straight into the first team.

"For me, it's the next step in my career and I want to show all the fans here what a good player I can be."
