Kidderminster Harriers manager Steve Burr has declared his new-look team are ready to go ahead of Saturday's season opener at York.

Harriers kick-off their campaign at last season's play-off finalists, an early acid test of the mettle of Burr's men.

The team could contain any number of 14 new signings after a massive overhaul at Aggborough, in what has been a busy first summer in charge for the manager.

Only John Finnigan, Tom Sharpe, Kyle Hadley, Jack Byrne and Gavin Caines - who has been told he can leave - remain from last season's squad, although Byrne was a Burr signing back in March.

With the clock ticking to the opening day, Harriers have been hard at work on the training ground with the new-boys looking to get a feel for each others game before the league matches come thick and fast.

Pre-season signs have been encouraging - three opening defeats have been followed by six wins with the gradual progression of the team particularly pleasing Burr.

And the Harriers boss is looking forward to seeing his new charges tackle the Blue Square Premier head on.

He said: "I am delighted with the way we are working at the minute, confidence is good and we are looking strong.

"From where we were a month ago to where we are now, everybody is starting to gel in nicely to the squad and what we want to do. With money being quite tight summer, I am very pleased with what we have managed to assemble.

"It will take a bit of time for the players to properly bed in, that is the challenge ahead of us but we are looking forward getting in and amongst it this season."
