Thousands more wheelie bins to get families recycling will be rolled out to more of Sandwell this month.

Around 7,500 homes in Wednesbury will receive blue lid recycling bins and a collection calendar from August 23.

It is the latest area to get the bins, coming after Great Barr, Newton and Hamstead areas. Parts of Smethwick, Old Warley, Tividale, Tipton, Cradley Heath and Old Hill have also been given the recycling containers.

The collections, for plastic, card, cartons, paper, glass and cans will start from September 6.

Councillor Derek Rowley, Sandwell Cabinet member for safer neighbourhoods, said: "The first phase of the blue lid recycling service was rolled out August, 2008, in parts of Great Barr.

"The service was rolled out as a trial following public demand for an increase in the types of materials collected, particularly plastic and card.

"Around 7,500 homes are included in each phase of the roll out. The roll out forphase eight will see bins delivered the week commencing August 23, with collections starting the week commencing September 6."
