Kidderminster Harriers wrapped up the signing of left winger Callum Gittings before beating Crewe Alexandra in their last pre-season friendly at Aggborough.

The next time Harriers play on their own ground will be their opening home game of the Blue Square Premier season in two weeks, with Southport the visitors on Tuesday August 17.

Saturday's final pre-season game at Southern League outfit Hednesford and the curtain raiser at York on Saturday week are both away, but Steve Burr's men signed off in style last night with a 4-0 win against a young Crewe team.

Trialist Gittings put pen to paper on a one-year deal before the game to become the latest player to be given a big chance in the full-time with Harriers, after spending last season in the Midland Alliance with Alvechurch.

The 24-year-old's signing takes the number of contracted players at Aggborough to 19, with boss Burr urging him to make the most of the opportunity.

He said: "Callum has worked incredibly hard to make a chance for himself and we have been impressed with him.

"He knows he still has a lot of hard work to do but he deserves this opportunity."

Harriers ran out 4-0 winners last night with goals Nick Wright, trialist Charlie Bird, player-coach John Finnigan and Tom Shaw.

It was Wright's first since signing from Tamworth last Thursday, with his maiden strike one of the many things that impressed the manager.

He said: "It was nice to see Nick get off the mark and there was a lot of good stuff out there.

"The squad we have assembled has showed that they are well capable of competing.

"We set our stall out to work hard and that's what we will do all season."
