Stafford Rangers have been boosted by the surprise return of last season's emerging star Fabrice Kasiama to the club.

The pacy wing-back was in the team that won Saturday's derby match at Stafford Town, curling in a goal that had the team 3-0 up at half-time.

But the Blue Square North club endured a nail-biting second half as their near neighbours, who play five leagues below in the West Midlands Premier Division, pulled it back to 3-2 after the interval.

Perhaps it was to be expected - Rangers had to play striker Nick Wellecomme in goal because Tom Harrison had to go to hospital in agony with a tooth abscess.

But Rangers No 1 Lee Evans should be back in the country any day now after spending the summer coaching in the United States, although tomorrow night's home friendly against Football League club Port Vale may come too soon with the ill-effects of an arduous flight home to contend with.

However, expect Kasiama to be in Rangers' ranks, which manager Chris Brindley was not banking on after revealing last month that he wasn't expecting the teenager to be back for this season.

The 19-year-old recently moved with his family to London and spent this summer on trial at Barnet in the hope of finding a club closer to home, before coming back to the Midlands in a bid to win a deal at non-league Tamworth.

Both attempts proved fruitless, so the former Wolves academy player has decided the club where he made his name was the place to be.

Assistant boss Steve Wynn said: "Fabrice got in touch with us, he's a talented lad but it caught us on the hop a little bit, in terms of us tying up a few things that we have done from a financial point of view.

"As we predicted, there are a few more players starting to become available now."
