Kidderminster Harriers assistant boss Gary Whild believes homegrown defender Joe Hull has done his chances of a professional contract no harm after starring at Redditch.

Hull played the full 90 minutes for an experimental side at the Valley Stadium last night, with Harriers running out 3-1 winners against their Blue Square North neighbours.

Winger Kyle Hadley, along with trial duo Patrick Sayce and Joel Grandison, got the goals but it was at the back where Hull caught the eye.

Last season's Young Player of the Year, along with striker Robert Thompson-Brown, is bidding to earn his first pro deal after being invited back to join the first-team squad at the start of the month for pre-season training.

And Whild believes the 18-year-old has now given management something to think about.

He said: "Joe was fantastic, for a young lad it was a real test for him and he came through it with flying colours."

Every player involved for Harriers last night were playing for their futures, with the exception of Hadley and goalkeeper Adam Stevens who are under contract at Aggborough.

Whild admits that, while the performance and result did them credit, not all will be kept on.

He said: "It was nice to see the lads who have been training with us in a physical, game situation of hustle-and-bustle. It's difficult to look in training, so it was a good exercise for us.

"There were some talented lads out there and it's difficult for them in a game like this, when they are trying to impress.

"They are all technically very good and they have been at good clubs, but the reality is that Blue Square Premier level is what they are up against."
