Kidderminster Harriers signed defender Mike Williams and former £3million man Lee Morris to one-year contracts directly after last night's friendly at Chasetown.

The duo put pen-to-paper after playing in a 1-0 win for Harriers at the Scholars Ground, the team's first success in four attempts during pre-season, with trial midfielder Lloyd Kerry doing his chances of a permanent deal no harm at all with the winner in the second-half.

Striker Morris is a marquee name after his big-money move from Sheffield United to Derby County in 1999, having also played for Leicester for two years at Championship level.

Now 30, the former England under-21 international has drifted down the divisions in recent years with Yeovil and Hereford, even playing non-league football for Burton Albion, Mansfield and Forest Green, the latter two on loan from Hereford.

They released him this summer, making him a free agent again and Harriers boss Steve Burr has now successfully made his move, after Morris trained with the club this week.

The manager said: "This can be a fresh start for him. It goes without saying he is someone who knows where the net is.

"Lee has gone for some big money during his career and he will bring some real experience to the side - as well as some goals."

Defender Williams is also a former Wales under-21 international and a one club man until this summer, having spent all of his five-year professional career at Wrexham.

The 23-year-old joined Harriers on trial after his release from the Dragons this summer, impressing the manager enough in his three friendly appearances to be offered a contract.

Burr said: "I have been really impressed with what I have seen from Mike. Although he is still at a young age he is a relatively old head."

Harriers have also confirmed young midfielder Nathan Hayward has left the club, after failing to agree terms on a contract for next season.

The 19-year-old turned down the chance of a trial at Wolves two years ago while still a youth team player to try and break into the first-team at Aggborough, but made only nine appearances last season.
