Stafford Rangers' hope of landing Dean Bennett as their next signing have been boosted by the experienced midfielder starting Saturday's game against Hednesford.
The free agent played the full 90 minutes of the 1-0 home win in the first leg of the Cannock Chase cup, starting the move that led to Ben Mills' winner in the first-half, and could even be in the team for this Saturday's return game at Keys Park.
Bennett answered the call after Rangers boss Chris Brindley offered him a game, having yet to get fixed up with a new club after ending a second spell at Kidderminster Harriers this summer.
The 32-year-old brings plenty of know-how to the table after 12 years as a full-time professional, starting his career at Albion and also serving Wrexham and Chester when both were in the Football League.
But Rangers are not the only ones in the hunt for Bennett's services, with Halesowen and AFC Telford also running the rule over him in training in recent weeks.
Telford offered him the chance to play in tomorrow night's friendly against Hereford, but Bennett is struggling with a dead calf after taking a knock on Saturday.
Halesowen's interest is dependent on the outcome of the Football Association's case against Matty Clarke, with the Yeltz boss facing a ban for allegedly becoming embroiled in a betting scam.
But Bennett is keen to play for a club near his Wolverhampton home, which fits the criteria for all three interested parties.
He said: "I don't where I am going to end up, as I am still weighing up my options at the moment. I just want to keep fit and get some games under my belt, wherever that may be.
"We will see what happens, the clubs I have involved so far have been on my doorstep, but there's not many that are full-time in that respect.
"If that's all that I can get, then that's what I am going to have to do."
