Stafford Rangers' teenage star Fabrice Kasiama appears to have left the club for good - but wing partner Levi Reid could return and play against Hednesford.
Kasiama and Reid were on the right and left respectively in the team last season but did not report back for the start of pre-season training this month, raising doubts on whether they would be staying at Marston Road.
But Reid returned to training last night and could be in the squad for tomorrow's Chase Cup two-legged tournament at home to local rivals Hednesford (3pm), with the return game set for Keys Park next Saturday.
However, Kasiama's time at the club appears to be over after he moved to London with his family, as the 19-year-old is now looking for a club in the capital.
Manager Chris Brindley said: "Whether Fabrice will get offered something down there I don't know, but the door is not closed, for him or anybody.
"But, at the moment, it's unlikely he will be coming back."
The Rangers boss is adamant no-one will be treating the Hednesford game as a meaningless friendly and he has more reasons than most to take it seriously - as the publican at the Cross Keys right across the road from the visitors' Keys Park home.
Hednesford took the cup the first time round last year and Brindley - himself a popular former player and manager with the Pitmen - has not been able to live it down since.
He said: "I don't want to get beaten again, I took a lot of stick off the locals last year!
"But these are good games to be involved in, with a bit of local rivalry added to it, so we are looking for a decent turnout and a competitive match."
Rangers defender Craig McAughtrie will also play after returning from his summer holiday this week.
