New Stafford Rangers assistant manager Steve Wynn has been impressed with the hunger of the players after taking in his first training session.

The squad has been back in training since the turn of the month and were joined by their new No 2 last Thursday night, after he had returned from his summer holiday in Turkey.

Wynn has spent the last four years at local rivals AFC Telford but has been at Marston Road before, having played for the club for two years from 1986 to 1988.

Rangers have come through perhaps their most challenging period over the last two seasons, with the effects of severe financial cuts still being felt by manager Chris Brindley as he continues to steer the ship to safety in the Blue Square North.

But you can't buy hunger and that was evident to Wynn, after spending his first week with the players.

He said: "When you are not blessed with a great amount of money, you have to look into the players eyes and say 'do it for yourself and do it for the club.' That has become apparent to me in the short time I have spent with them, how much they want to play for the gaffer and for Stafford Rangers.

"We are pooling our resources on the hunger that these lads have, that is the most important thing for me."

Rangers start their pre-season programme with a trip to Midland Alliance outfit Biddulph Victoria tomorrow night, building up to the big kick-off at Boston United on August 14.

And Wynn believes the time is right to get for the players to get back into match action.

He said: "Their fitness levels are very good, we are four sessions in now and they are eager to get a game under their belts.

"You can only train so much."
