Goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey has targeted winning his place back after signing a five-year deal and branding Wolves a "special club."

Announced yesterday, the Wales international's new deal to 2015 would take him up to a decade at Molineux.

Hennessey had been linked with a move away after losing his place to Marcus Hahnemann and Liverpool were reported to have made a £2million approach, which was denied by Wolves.

But the 23-year-old insists Wolves are the club for him and targeted winning back the spot he lost last November.

He said: "If I wasn't happy I wouldn't be signing here and I'm delighted to have committed my future here. I've been here a long time and Wolves is certainly a special club to me.

"Bobby Mimms was a key man in my development and it was sad when he left but Pat Mountain has done a great job.

"It's a big season for all of us and I'm hoping to play a part in it. We've been talking since last season and have got to where we all wanted to be and it's great to get it sorted out during pre-season.

"It means I can prepare for another good season and hopefully we can stay up again."

Hennessey still wants the best for rival Marcus Hahnemann, who took his place last November.

He said: "Last season I only played 13 games but I want Marcus to do well when he plays.

"Nobody knows what will happen next season. There are some really good goalkeepers here, so competition for places is always going to be tough. Marcus, Carl Ikeme and Matt Murray are all great keepers.

"We all want to play, but we all want the best for whoever does play. I'll keep trying and hopefully I'll continue to improve.

"There are always parts of your game you can improve on and I'm no different to any other player in that respect."
