Stafford Rangers are hopeful of keeping hold of last season's loan duo Ross Davidson and Danny Glover as the youngsters continue to spend pre-season with them.
Both were present when the players returned for the first time last Thursday, and are expected to be back for the next training session tomorrow night.
They are free agents after their release from boyhood club Port Vale this summer, so are tuning up with Rangers as they ponder their next move having saw out last season at Marston Road.
As they reported back they found another mutual friend in striker Ben Mills, who himself returned to the club this summer after leaving Blue Square North rivals Alfreton.
All three were schoolboys at Vale, with Mills a year older at 21, although it was only midfielder Davidson and striker Glover who went on to turn professional.
The trio all come from the same neck of the woods as well, living in rural towns a stones throw from each other in Staffordshire.
And Mills is confident that, if the duo can be persuaded to stay, the Football League's loss will be Rangers' gain.
He said: "They have got experience for young lads and are both good players. I have grown up with Danny and Ross, so I have known all about them for years.
"Ross has a bit of quality, you could tell that even at a young age, and now he has got that bit more experience there's a more disciplined side to his game.
"Danny is a lively striker, technically he is very good, it's just a matter of him adapting to non-league, scrapping for the bits up front, but there's no doubt he's a quality player."
