Kidderminster Harriers are set to complete next season's goalkeeping line-up by picking up Andrew Stevens from relegated Southern Premier League side Rugby Town.

Harriers have handed the highly-rated youngster a one-year deal, which is expected to be signed as soon as Rugby release his registration.

Stevens leaves Butlin Road after a disastrous season for his club, finishing bottom of the table, but another breakthrough campaign for the 23-year-old, who took home the Player of the Season award for the second year in succession.

The young custodian had been first-choice at Rugby for two years since signing from his first club Bedford in the summer of 2008, having also previously served Yeading before the club merged to become Hayes & Yeading.

Harriers assistant boss Gary Whild believes the club may have a star find on their hands with their latest signing.

He said: "We have done really well to get him here. Andrew is the best goalkeeper in his league by far and, because of his age and record, there were a number of clubs wanting to do something with him.

"But he likes what he's seen here and is looking forward to joining us."

A move to Aggborough brings Stevens into direct competition with another new signing in Danny Lewis, four years his senior at 27, with the two new-boys set to slug it for the goalkeeper's jersey next season.

And Whild believes the attitude of both players will prove to Harriers' benefit in the coming months.

He said: "Andrew is much like Danny - he is not one to sulk if he is not in the team and he will work hard.

"It's going to be a good battle of two hungry goalkeepers."

The new duo replace Dean Coleman and Jasbir Singh, who were released this summer, with Coleman expected to be heading to the Southern Premier League to join Halesowen.
