Striker Nick Wellecomme will rejoin the Stafford Rangers squad for the start of pre-season training on Thursday night - three weeks after signing for Corby.
Last season's captain and 13-goal top scorer joined their Blue Square North rivals on non-contract forms, but has been released after having second thoughts about the deal.
The problem stems from his working commitments as a scaffolder, which at the time of his move was Birmingham-based but has now evolved into working all over the country, most recently at Southport up in Merseyside.
Corby boss Graham Drury confirmed Wellecomme had left the club at the weekend, with the player then calling reserve team boss Andy Bates to see how the land lies at Marston Road.
Bates spoke with manager Chris Brindley, who extended the olive branch and the invitation to train with the players for the campaign ahead.
Wellecomme is glad to be back, hoping that a deal and maybe even getting the captaincy back could be in the works.
He said: "At the minute I am still a free agent, but I am going to train with Rangers this week. At the minute I just want to keep fit, get in the groove and then see what happens.
"To be honest, I didn't want to leave to begin with, but Corby seemed like a really good offer and maybe some other time it would have worked out. But, at the moment, it's no good for me.
"I feel a bit of an idiot, it was a hard enough decision to make in going there so for it to turn out like this is regrettable."
