Kidderminster new-boy Tom Shaw is hoping his versatility can be the key to breaking into the team and staying there at his new club.

The utility player signed a one-year deal at Aggborough two weeks ago, after his release from Blue Square Premier rivals Tamworth, and is familiar to manager Steve Burr from their time together with the England C team, where Burr is assistant boss.

Shaw is primarily a central midfielder but that is an area where Harriers are top heavy boasting the likes of John Finnigan, Jack Byrne, Keith Briggs and Chris McPhee for the season ahead.

But the 23-year-old is hoping his ability to play in a number of positions can prove to his benefit if the spots for the middle of the park are tied up, and is adopting a 'play anywhere' attitude to make sure his name is on the team-sheet.

With the 'young and hungry' ethos Harriers have placed on player recruitment this summer, Shaw believes competition will be that fierce everyone will have to be on top of their game.

He said: "I want to get into the starting line-up as quickly as possible and I can do a job anywhere really.

"There are some good players I'll be going up against for a place in the team and that is only a good thing - it can only make us stronger.

"Once you're in the side you're going to know there is someone breathing down your neck looking to take your place, so everyone will be on their toes and performing to their best.

"But overall the foundations are there for a good team with the players that have been brought in and, with the way the manager and his assistant work, I think we can have a successful year."
