Stafford Rangers defender Craig McAughtrie has threw his hat into the ring to become the new captain of the team for next season.
The experienced centre-half has committed his future to the club for the new campaign, after putting pen to paper on a one-year deal last month.
Now the 28-year-old has set his sights on the captaincy vacated by talismanic striker Nick Wellecomme this summer, after last season's 13-goal top scorer signed for Blue Square North rivals Corby.
McAughtrie led the side for a game at Solihull Moors last season, despite only being on-loan from Eastwood, with Wellecomme sitting out after a spat with a section of his own fans in a home game with Vauxhall Motors.
The big defender is into his second stint at Marston Road and stood in as captain on several occasions in his first spell at Rangers from 2002 and 2007, whenever long-term skipper Wayne Daniel was out of the team.
But never before has McAughtrie been installed as the permanent leader of the team, a responsibility he is now keen to be considered for.
He said: "It would be an honour to be captain, obviously I have had the armband a few times before but to lead the side out every week, every player wants to do that. I would like to be considered, it's down to the manager and he will have to see what squad he gets together first.
"If it's there to be had, I definitely want to be in the running for it."
