Former Stafford Rangers captain Wayne Daniel will open talks with manager Chris Brindley over the weekend about the prospect of a return to Marston Road.

But the 33-year-old is keeping his options open as a free agent after leaving Worcester at the end of last season, and will also speak with two league rivals before coming to a decision.

Daniel only wants to play in the Blue Square North, narrowing the playing field, but holds an emotional attachment to Rangers after spending seven years at Marston Road from 2002 to 2009.

The big defender only returned from a family holiday at his villa in Spain on Tuesday, with Brindley back in the country yesterday from a trip to Turkey.

Further sullying the lines of communication, Rangers are currently operating without a chairman and assistant boss, after Jon Downing retired and Darren Read left for AFC Telford.

But the manager has made the first move and the player will return the call imminently, to formally discuss the idea of bringing the popular former skipper back to the club.

And Daniel is looking to make a quick decision in the coming days on his plans for next season.

He said: "I have got to phone the manager at Stafford Rangers back, we can take it on from there and see what happens.

"There are a couple of other clubs interested in me and I only want to play in the Blue Square North, so they are obviously in the same division as Rangers.

"I am looking to make a decision over the weekend, possibly early next week, so I can relax and enjoy the rest of my summer before going back for pre-season training."
