Worcestershire have swooped for one of the biggest names in world cricket by snapping up Sri Lanka legend Sanath Jayasuriya.
The 40-year-old will come in for part of their campaign, subject to clearance from the Sri Lankan Cricket Board.
The veteran, who has played 110 Test matches, 444 one day internationals and 30 international twenty 20s during an exceptional international career, will replace Steve Smith after five matches of the campaign following Smith's selection to the Australian T20 and ODI squad this summer.
New road director of cricket Steve Rhodes said: "Sanath will bring a wealth of experience to the squad during a critical part of the forthcoming campaign gained from playing all around the world including the IPL and the recent World Twenty20 in the West Indies.
"His left-arm spin and powerful batting can only benefit our efforts in this competition and there is no doubt he is still one of the most exciting cricketers in world cricket.
"He is a proven match winner and I have no doubt he will prove to be a great entertainer for our supporters."
