Stafford Rangers are hopeful of keeping hold of winger Levi Reid for next season after assurances that only the full-time game can lure him away from the club.
The 26-year-old has made no secret of his intention to break back into professional football after previously playing for Port Vale, Macclesfield and Oxford.
Rangers are the only other team that have had him among their ranks, and it was his hometown club that offered him a route back last August after almost a year out of the game.
The wide man got himself fit and got the best part of a season under his belt, cementing his place back on the wing as the team secured safety in the Blue Square North.
But Football League clubs have come sniffing around before where Reid is concerned, with Macclesfield coming calling in 2007 after two years picking himself up from the heartbreak of being let go by boyhood club Port Vale.
Rangers didn't stand in his way and they wouldn't now but, if that doesn't comes to pass, assistant boss Darren Read is confident the hometown star will stay at at Marston Road.
He said: "We have spoken to Levi who, as it stands, is more than happy to stay at Stafford Rangers. The only way he is going to leave the club is if a higher level of football is offered to him on a more permanent basis.
"He's a fantastic lad to have around the changing rooms and helps the younger lads through. When you speak to him he's very realistic about the game, and he knows what this club can achieve if we get the mindset right."
