Kidderminster Harriers' new signing Keith Briggs believes the Steve Burr factor could be the key in restoring old glories to Aggborough.

Boss Burr yesterday brought in his former Stalybridge Celtic captain on a two-year deal, the third capture of the summer after Redditch goalkeeper Danny Lewis and AFC Telford defender Lee Vaughan.

The two were skipper and boss together at the Bower Fold as recently as January, before Burr left to take the vacant manager's job at Aggborough after the departure of Mark Yates to Cheltenham.

But the season ended in a damp squib for Harriers, after a poor run of form later in the season led to elimination from the FA Trophy in the semi-finals and a disappointing 13th place finish in the Blue Square Premier.

The club only missed the play-offs on the final day in 2008/09 and were champions in 1994 and 2000, but Briggs believes his old chief can be the man to bring back the good old days.

He said: "If the manager is able to bring in the players he has spoken to me about, if we can play the way I know he likes to play, we shouldn't have anything to worry about.

"We will give it a really good push and aim to finish as high as possible. Kidderminster are a big club and I have heard the fans are really good, so I can't wait to get started.

"If you make your players feel on top of the world and make them believe they can win things, then you are always going to get an extra 10 per cent out of them - that is what Steve Burr does.

"He makes his players feel like that are the best in the world and that allows you to go out, play your best game and express yourself."
