Wolves goalkeeper Matt Murray has calmed rumours that he is about to retire by insisting he has no intention of quitting the game.

A report suggested the 29-year-old is considering giving up his long fight against injury and taking a £500,000 insurance payout.

Murray, who has not played for the club in three years because of two separate serious knee injuries, admits speaking to his insurance company.

But the former England hopeful insists it is normal practice to do so, for the purpose of updating his policy because of his injury record.

And Murray is continuing with his rehabilitation at Compton in the hope of joining pre-season training at some stage.

He said: "I've had some serious injuries in my career, which I have to make my insurance company aware of.

"But I can say I have absolutely no intention of retiring. The knee feels strong, the surgeon is still confident I can play again as are the physios and medical staff here.

"That's what I'm continuing to work towards and that's why I'm going to be in over the summer working on my rehabilitation.

"The knee feels good and if I was thinking about retiring, I certainly wouldn't be coming in here during the summer.

"At the moment it's all going well and I'm still aiming to be ready to be with the group at some stage of pre-season.

"Most players have got some form of injury insurance and look into it at the start of each season."

Murray admits looking ahead to a career after football and has been coaching for several months.

He said: "I want to stay in the game when I do finish and am looking into doing a sports science degree.

"I have also started my coaching badges. That's definitely something else to consider."
