Kidderminster Harriers manager Steve Burr is playing the waiting game before making final decisions on which of last season's squad will be offered new terms.

Harriers currently have just four of the playing staff under contract from 2009/10 in assistant boss John Finnigan, captain Chris McPhee, midfielder Jack Byrne and transfer listed striker Robbie Matthews.

Only one player has been offered a new deal, last season's top scorer Brian Smikle, with the likes of Dean Coleman, Jas Singh and Darryl Knights already released.

Boss Steve Burr has used some of the club's capital to bring in two players this week who would have been snapped up had he not moved there and then, with Redditch goalkeeper Danny Lewis and AFC Telford defender Lee Vaughan known to have been courted by other suitors.

With a good chunk of the budget, which is still not absolutely finalised, still tied up the manager must now wait until the remaining out-of-contract players deals expire at the end of the month, before making calls on who the club would like to keep.

The squad may be getting restless, but Burr explains that his hands are tied for the time being.

He said: "We are in a situation where, until we can finalise the budget, I am still hanging fire with one or two decisions. There's calls to make on players who are still with us, but we will make that announcement as and when it's right.

"The next contracts that are up are not until the end of the month, but by then we will have a bigger picture of what is happening so that gives me a bit of time.

"At the minute, it's just waiting to see what we can do."
