Kidderminster Harriers are looking to move on Robbie Matthews as quickly as possible to fund their mystery striker bid - which is not for ex-loanee James Lawrie.

Boss Steve Burr has been holding talks with an unnamed forward released from a Football League club, which linked in Northern Ireland under-21 international Lawrie who has been let go by Port Vale and finished the season on loan at Aggborough.

That is not the case, although the manager is keeping tabs on his former loan signing.

But any potential move for a new striker is being held up by the situation with Matthews, one of only six players under contract for next season, who was transfer listed last week with a year left on his deal.

The 27-year-old has managed eight goals since signing from Salisbury last August, but has been deemed surplus to requirements.

Harriers are desperate to move the player on and Burr has already taken calls from other clubs expressing an interest.

He said: "If I can move Matthews out, it will help with the players we are trying to bring in. We have had a couple of enquiries for him, one in the same league and one from lower down, so I am hoping that something will come of it because I need to free up the money to bring someone else in.

"I am talking to a lad at the minute and that is being held up, in fact I am talking to a couple of players in that respect. It's not James Lawrie at this present moment, but we are keeping an eye on him because he was with us last season.

"He's certainly not the unnamed Football League striker that was mentioned."
