Wolves academy first-year scholar Johnny Gorman has been selected in the full Northern Ireland squad for the friendlies against Turkey and Chile later this month.

The Cheshire-born midfielder could win his first cap in Nigel Worthington's 18-strong squad for games at home to Turkey on May 26 and away to Chile four days later.

Formerly with Manchester City for one year and Manchester United for six years, Gorman joined Wolves this season.

Gorman, who has previously been capped at under-17s level, is combining his apprenticeship with a scholarship at Repton School in Derby.

Elsewhere in the youth ranks, Wolves' under 18s played out a goalless against Blackburn in their final FA Academy League game of the season at Compton Park.

Neither side could muster a goal in a lacklustre affair and coach Mick Halsall was hoping for a better performance.

He said: "A win would have given us third place in the league but it wasn't to be.

"We've had a good season but lacked a cutting edge against Rovers - we just didn't have enough in our tank to push them back.

"The opening 20 minutes weren't the greatest and I had to take Louis Harris off after he had caught one of their lads with a late challenge.

"Louis didn't deliberately try to harm his opponent, but he was booked, and, after kicking the ball away in a separate incident, I decided he was treading a fine line so I substituted him.

"They have to remember if they want stand a chance of going on and getting into the first team squad, they will have to continue working as hard as they possibly can."
