Former Stafford Rangers captain Wayne Daniel has stoked the fires for an emotional return to Marston Road by admitting his interest in coming back to the club.

The 33-year-old is now a free agent after his release from Worcester, spending just a season at St George's Lane after ending a seven-year spell with Rangers last summer.

Daniel had become an iconic figure as skipper through over 300 appearances for the club, and still retains links to the town where his sister still lives.

The big defender is currently clearing his head and preparing for a family holiday at his villa in Spain, but will look to be fixed up for next season ideally by the end of the month.

And his wish is to play Blue Square North football again - which could open the door for a popular Rangers return.

He said: "There could be a chance of me coming back to Rangers, there are a lot of possibilities at the moment. I haven't decided yet what I am going to do.

"I am going to take a few weeks out now, go on holiday then come back and see what my options are.

"I definitely want get back into the Blue Square North, and if that's at Stafford then brilliant.

"If it was just a case of walking back into the club then I would, it would be like coming home."

Rangers last week admitted their interest in putting together a dream central defensive partnership of Daniel and loan defender Craig McAughtrie, with both Marston Road old boys and former team-mates as recently as 2007.

McAughtrie is also free to move after his release from league rivals Eastwood, and Daniel reveals the pair have already spoken about the future.

He said: "That would be a homecoming, me and 'Macca' back in the team!

"I still speak to him, he is adamant that he was enjoying his football and is looking to come back to Stafford next season."
