New Kidderminster Harriers assistant manager Gary Whild is looking to hit the ground running at Aggborough after being appointed to his new role this week.

The former Redditch boss ended weeks of speculation on Tuesday by confirming his move to Harriers as Steve Burr's assistant, after leaving his post the Valley Stadium last month.

His arrival will allow John Finnigan to revert to a first-team coach role and concentrate more on pulling the strings in midfield for the team next season, while adding another voice from the dugout.

It's quiet time now for the squad who are not due back until pre-season training on July 5 but, with just four players under contract and one of those transfer listed, the management team will be working overtime in what is expected to be another high turnover of players for the club this summer.

Whild and Burr will be tapping into all their contacts to put together a team that can significantly build on last season disappointing 13th place finish in the Blue Square Premier, and the new man on board is looking forward to the challenges ahead.

He said: "We know we have a difficult job to do next season but we have got to prove that we are capable by getting results on the pitch.

"If you don't set yourself targets and aims then there is probably not a lot of point in turning up, so of course we are ambitious.

"In football I don't think there is ever a quiet period, Steve and I have already been talking about and watching players.

"I am sure the next couple of months will fly by and I am really looking forward to the start of pre-season."
