Boss Charlie Blakemore today pledged to take Chasetown to the next level after the Scholars clinched promotion with a 1-0 win over Glapwell.

Dean Perrow's 86th-minute winner put the Scholars into wonderland on Saturday - a year on from last season's play-off heartbreak - as they edged their UniBond First Division South play-off final.

Chasetown now face a wait to find out what league they will be in next season - the Southern League or the Northern League Premier Division.

But Blakemore promised the Scholars, who have reached the highest level in their history, can challenge next season - wherever they end up.

"Whatever league we go into we will be competitive," he said. "I said to the players to go and make history and they have broken lots of records.

"To go up is fantastic, the players have been absolutely outstanding. It's done over the season, we finished second and we deserve it.

"I'm incredibly proud of the players and everyone at the club."
