Speeding motorists in a South Staffordshire village are being targeted by a flashing sign spelling out a warning about driving too fast.

The move comes amid growing concern over the number of drivers ignoring the 30mph limit to career through Pattingham.

Parish council chairman Ken Clive said: "A resident was almost knocked down the other night and that was one near miss too many.

"Drastic problems require drastic solutions and we are determined to stop the speeders."

A large warning sign equipped with radar cameras is being introduced in the village and will be used on Friday and Saturday.

Michelle Hunt, spokeswoman for Staffordshire County Council, said: "The speed activated sign at Pattingham is being provided by a private company but we are aware of it being used in the village."
