Goalkeeper Lee Evans has hailed midfielder Tom Thorley as the player who makes Stafford Rangers tick after the two swept home in the end of season awards.

Thorley was voted the Player of the Season by his team-mates and manager Chris Brindley before Saturday's final home game of the season against Gainsborough, while Evans was named supporters and directors Player of the Season.

The two went on to star in a 2-1 win, a result that saw Rangers' better last season's home record.

Thorley had a hand in Nick Wellecomme's first goal, and his goalkeeper believes it's his influence that has made all the difference this season.

He said: "Tom has been fantastic for us, I just think that when he plays well the team generally play well. He tends to make us tick and thoroughly deserves his plaudits."

Evans has been another big success story this season, recovering from an horrific facial and then an ankle ligament injury to break into and then pin down his place the team.

He said: "I knew ability wise I would be up to the level, I just wanted the opportunity and I believe I have proved myself this season. I guess it has been a good bit of character and resolve on my part to come back in the way I have, after a tough start to my time at the club.

"I am pleased for myself in that respect."
