Stafford Rangers winger Levi Reid is winning his race to be fit for the final home game of the season on Saturday in another fitness boost for the team.

The wide man missed last Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Gloucester with flu, and joined defender Craig McAughtrie on the sidelines who was ruled out with a different illness.

But after a weekend of rest Reid has been able to do some gym work ahead of tomorrow night's session at Marston Road, and will join McAughtrie in the treatment room to be put through their paces.

Should they prove their fitness, both will return to the squad for the visit of Brian Little's Gainsborough Trinity, as the former Villa boss makes the short trip from his Stafford home to lead his team into the match.

Reid is still feeling some of the ill effects but hopes it will wear off for when the team say goodbye to their home fans for the season, with safety in the Blue Square North secured last weekend after Harrogate ran out of games to catch them.

It's likely to be a carnival atmosphere for the hosts and their supporters, and it's a day their hometown winger is desperate to be a part of.

He said: "I am much better but I am still not at 100 per cent yet, although I am hoping to be back on Saturday. Nobody wants to miss the last home game of the season, and now that the pressure is off we can relax and enjoy it.

"It's my chest that has been the biggest problem, but I am over the worst of it now."
