Kidderminster Harriers loan star Luke Prosser is happy to play for his future over the rest of the season as the clock ticks toward an uncertain summer for the defender.

The 21-year-old was one of four players told by League Two Port Vale at the end of last month they would not be offered terms for next season, and was subsequently sent out on loan to put himself in the shop window for a new club.

Harriers remain coy on their plans to offer contracts in the summer, with all but four of the squad at Aggborough playing for their immediate futures, but Prosser is one of the five-strong loan brigade that will definitely be available in the summer.

And the former Tottenham trainee has recovered from a howler on his debut that led to defeat against Salisbury to grow into a central defensive role alongside the established Martin Riley, with the two having played the last six games.

The ominous spectre of being out of work at the end of the season looms large, but Prosser insists his only concern is regular first-team football.

He said: "It sounds silly, but in a way I'm almost pleased to not be getting a contract at Vale. I kind of felt if I did, it would be the same for me as it has been this year - I would be playing one week and on the bench the next.

"I would be getting a few games here and that isn't my aim, I want to be playing week in and week out. If that means dropping a league then I am quite happy to do that and work my way back up.

"I am looking forward to whatever happens next year."
