Ten-man Walsall suffered late heartbreak after they were denied a stunning win as Huddersfield struck twice in injury time to win an unbelievable game.

Antony Kay's stoppage time header and Lee Novak's 94th minute volley dealt a cruel blow to the Saddlers, after they had valiantly fought back from 2-0 down to lead 3-2.

Troy Deeney bagged a quickfire second half brace before Alex Nicholls' 83rd minute strike almost won it for the visitors – all after Mark Hughes had been sent off after just 20 minutes.

It was the captain's second red in four appearances and Saddlers' fifth dismissal in nine games.

The skipper was dismissed for hauling down Jordan Rhodes to concede a 20th minute penalty, which Theo Robinson converted.

Huddersfield squandered several more openings before Rhodes added a second in first-half stoppage time after beaing the offside trap to slot past goalkeeper Rene Gilmartin.

The Saddlers looked buried before Deeney's 63rd minute goal.

The striker chased a lost ball to cause panic between Alex Smithies and Peter Clarke and goalkeeper Smithies' clearance cannoned off Deeney and into the net.

Six minutes later they were level, when Deeney lashed in a half volley after Huddersfield failed to clear their lines.

The visitors then completed a remarkable turnaround when Nicholls turned past Smithies from close range with seven minutes remaining.

But they couldn't hold on, as Kay bundled in at the far post before Novak volleyed in from close range to spark pandemonium at the Galpharm Stadium.
