Reid's belief in hotshot captain
Stafford Rangers winger Levi Reid believes captain Nick Wellecomme can cap his best season at Marston Road by breaking through the 20-goal barrier.
Stafford Rangers winger Levi Reid believes captain Nick Wellecomme can cap his best season at Marston Road by breaking through the 20-goal barrier.
Both Reid and Wellecomme were on target as the team ground out a 2-2 draw with league leaders Fleetwood on Saturday, which took the skipper to 11 Blue Square goals for the season and all from open play.
Now his team-mate and the man who supplies the bullets from the left wing has tipped the striker to at least match the 20 goals scored by David McNiven last season in the six games remaining, starting with a relegation six-pointer against Vauxhall Motors on Saturday.
Reid said: "I don't see why not because he is a key player for us, a lot of people under-rate him but he is very good at what he does. He will get plenty more chances between now and the end of the season."
Rangers now host the last of three home games in a row on Saturday, against a Vauxhall Motors occupying the last relegation spot in the league with bottom club Harrogate cut some 12 points away from safety.
A win for the Marston Road men would hammer another nail in the visitors coffin, and could leave the away team 10 points adrift of 19th.
And Reid believes the right result could all but secure his team's Blue Square North spot for next season.
He said: "If we win that, I think we are more or less safe. It would be a massive blow for Vauxhall Motors, they have played a game more than us as well. It's a massive opportunity."
