Wolverhampton lightweight Steve Saville is planning to use his Midlands title to get his career back on track in the coming months.

'The Wednesfield Bomber' has yet to defend his crown since stopping Baz Carey to take the vacant belt in seven rounds in November 2008, and hasn't won a fight since.

In the meantime, Saville has been dumped put of Prizefighter in the first round, edged out of a British Masters title fight up at light welter before falling inside two rounds to Frankie Gavin and, last Friday night, Karl Place.

But even his latest setback was another compelling brawl, with the Black County puncher sending his opponent running for cover after a hammer of a left hook in the first, before being caught with a peach of a body shot in the second round and counted out.

It left the 33-year-old desperate to end his losing streak and, still recognised as the area title holder, aims to put the belt up for grabs to entice the right opponent into the ring.

Promoter Carl Greaves has already expressed an interested in staging a title fight between Saville and his fighter Amir Unsworth, possibly even in the challenger's hometown or Sleaford, or neutral ground of Sheffield or Doncaster.

And the self-managed champion is ready to take the challenge, as long as the terms are to his liking.

He said: "I am already back training, I gave my ribs a weekend of rest but I am eager to get going again now. It's become a losing run, which I don't want.

"But there's no way I am going to become a journeyman, I will carry on coming into every fight looking for the knockout.

"I will stop Unsworth given the chance, he's not far off my height for a change so he's ideal for me. It's my Midlands title and I am keeping it. All I am after is a date, I would love to do it on home ground but if I have to go into his backyard then so be it.

"If the money is right, you can count me in."

West Bromwich light welterweight Dean Hickman also looks to get his career back on track at Leeds United's Elland Road stadium tonight, with a main event bout against hometown fighter Adil Anwar.
