Stafford Rangers captain Nick Wellecomme believes the club are two results away from beating the drop and securing their Blue Square North spot for next season.

The Marston Road men currently lie seven points clear of the relegation places with seven games to go, and by the skipper's reckoning could pull clear by taking a decent points tally from back-to-back Saturday home games, starting with league leaders Fleetwood.

Rangers then face relegation rivals Vauxhall Motors on Easter weekend, before a trip to Solihull Moors on Bank Holiday Monday.

Chris Brindley's men left it right to the penultimate game of last season before mathematically securing their safety and, fully expecting a dogfight again this time around, are comforted by a two-game cushion to fall back on with the Matchdays continuing to fall from the calendar.

A nine-match run without a win has led to some nerves at Marston Road but the side have also been incredibly tough to beat at times, with six draws over that period.

Skipper Wellecomme is the man who must rally the troops after defeat at home to Ilkeston last Saturday, with a tough assignment against the table toppers lying in wait.

But the 10-goal striker has reminded his team-mates that what is at stake should be all the motivation they need.

He said: "The feeling around the club is that if we can one or two more wins we should safe. A win or a draw might even do it, and six points would pretty much see us through.

"We got into every game looking to win, but that is the sort of target we have set."
