Stafford Rangers winger Levi Reid has paid tribute to his former manager Keith Alexander as the football world continues to mourn the loss of the popular boss.

The 53-year-old passed away after arriving home from leading Macclesfield in their League Two match at Notts County on Tuesday night, with the exact cause of his death yet to be disclosed.

Reid was a player at Moss Rose when Alexander took charge in February 2008 and, although his time under the manager would be brief, led the tributes from Marston Road today.

He said: "Keith came to Macclesfield just after halfway through the one season I was there, although he released me at the end of the season! But I have never had any hard feelings against him for that, in football terms I didn't fit into his style of play at the time but he was fair.

"He was a real top bloke and treated everybody with respect, and the messages that have flooded in after his death has reflected that.

"Hopefully I can score when Rangers play at Eastwood on Saturday, and if I do I will dedicate my goal to Keith Alexander."

Levi's younger brother Izak is a first-team player at Macclesfield and started for Alexander on Tuesday night at Meadow Lane, picking up in a injury in the process.

It was when the player went into Moss Rose the following day that the sad news of the manager's death began to surface.

Levi said: "My brother was one of the first to hear the news, as he had to be in early yesterday for treatment. That was when he found out, it was him and the physio."
