Stafford Rangers have signed striker Saul Otobo in time for him to figure in the Blue Square North clash at home to promotion-chasing Alfreton.

The 22-year-old comes to Marston Road as a free agent after leaving Blue Square South side Eastleigh, and had been training with Chester City but was not offered a deal due to the club's transfer embargo.

Otobo now arrives at Rangers with the team missing talismanic captain and striker Nick Wellecomme for the next three games through suspension, with only Warwick Alexander or Aaron Lloyd - on work experience from Stoke and Shrewsbury respectively - able to fill the breach.

The new striker gives boss Chris Brindley another option ahead of the visit of the third-placed Reds tomorrow, the manager's own tip for the title at the start of the season.

He said: "Alfreton started the season badly and had a few injuries, but they are the side in form at the minute and are a good side in this league. But we have two home games and we have to win one of them at least.

"I have told the players to approach the game in a positive way. We have to keep on getting results, the other sides below us will catch up with their games in hand if we stand still where we are.

"We need a good few days, that's for sure."

The game marks the first return to Marston Road of Jake Moult and Ben Mills, who both left Rangers this season for Alfreton.

Brindley is hoping both players receive a warm welcome.

He said: "Ben and Jake left the club amicably, they made a decision to go to Alfreton and I haven't got a problem with that. It happens in football, players move on and that is life.

"I wish them all the best, but Stafford Rangers are my priority and the lads I have got here."
