Villa's finishing proved the difference as they regained top spot with a victory over derby rivals Wolves at Telford.

A brace from James Collins and goal from substitute Harry Forrester was enough for Kevin MacDonald's side to leapfrog Arsenal and go two points clear at the Premier Reserve League South summit.

However, the scoreline failed to tell the whole story after a Wolves side entirely made up of players with Premier League experience spurned a host of opportunities.

They threatened just two minutes in when Nenad Milijas' low drive fizzed just beyond David Bevan's post and 10 minutes later Andrew Surman missed a sitter when he blazed over the bar when it looked easier to score.

And Wolves were made to pay for their profligacy on 13 when Collins charged down Hennessey's clearance, the ball fell to Andreas Weimann and he squared for Collins to roll into the empty net.

It was Weimann's last significant contribution after he was forced off injured but his replacement, Forrester, soon made his mark – sweeping home Isaiah Osbourne's cross after Collins had fluffed his lines.

Unlucky Wolves saw George Friend's driven effort cleared off the line superbly by Clark on the stroke of half-time and three minutes after the break their frustration grew further still as Nenad Milijas' shot was beaten away by Bevan before Curtis Davies beat Stefan Maierhofer to the rebound.

Ruthless Villa put the game beyond doubt on 66 when Collins converted a Forrester cross with a glancing header and it should have been four when Forrester broke the offside trap but his cross from the byline was just beyond the reach of Jonathan Hogg.

And a frustrating night for Wolves was compounded when Sam Vokes' goalbound shot struck Maierhofer and bounced away to safety.

Villa: Bevan; Lichaj, Davies, Clark, Bouma; Salifou, Osbourne, Hogg; Weimann (Forrester), Collins, Hofbauer.

Wolves: Hennessey, Halford, Stearman, Elokobi, Friend, Surman, Castillo, Milijas, Mujangi, Maierhofer, Vokes
