Angry Albion defender Jonas Olsson blamed himself for costing his side victory after his 'schoolboy' error handed Cardiff the lead from an early penalty.

The Baggies vice-captain was still fuming after the match about the error that saw him forced to push over former Wolves striker Jay Bothroyd to give Cardiff their eighth-minute spot kick.

Peter Whittingham converted for the Bluebirds but Albion fought back to claim a point.

"I guess the other guys are proud but I am not proud of my efforts," said the honest Swede.

"I made a mistake that you make when you're 15.

"I should have headed the ball away instead of letting it go and then he got in front of me and fell over, so I am really disappointed.

"Maybe I am hard on myself, but fact is fact and we lost two points because of that.

"I am very displeased with my performance last night.

"But we did respond well. We have been playing well for quite some time now and we got back to that and again we came from behind and got points.

"That's something we have done throughout the season and that shows some good character and spirit."

Albion eventually earned their point thanks to an equaliser in stoppage time from full-back Gianni Zuiverloon.

And his fourth goal of the season came just eight days after his third in the 2-0 win over Scunthorpe.

"It was my second goal in a week but I would have been happier if we had won the game," said the Dutchman.

"I was waving my hands and Graham Dorrans clipped a wonderful ball over the centre half and it was just how I wanted it and I put it in the goal.

"We are a team and we have to help each other out.

"If I can score I will score and if someone else scores that's all good.

"Being 1-0 down away at Cardiff, it's always difficult to come back but we kept on playing football.

"We played our own game and we fought for every ball.

"That is a compliment to the whole team that we played our own game and stayed strong."

Last night's draw means Albion's defeat at Barnsley in September is still their only loss away from home in the Championship.

And Zuiverloon admitted he was unsure about the reasons for their superb away form, but he believes their counter-attacking style could be a factor.

"I don't really know the secret," said the former Holland Under-21 international.

"I think in away games we are maybe more solid and in home games we have to make the running and build the play.

"I away games we can just play from behind and be more solid."
