It's all change for Steve Saville as the Wolverhampton lightweight goes it alone in a bid to reignite his career.

'The Wednesfield Bomber' found himself at a crossroads as 2009 drew to a close, after one of the worst periods of the veteran's 11-year professional career.

It all happened to Saville last year – out of Prizefighter in the first round, outpointed and left with an injured eye in a British Masters title fight before falling to Frankie Gavin in just two rounds.

That is not to mention his home gym going up in flames in August – it has only just been rebuilt.

So the 33-year-old has took decisive action – going back to his original trainer Paul Fellows and going alone as a self-managed boxer, right down to sending his own e-mails.

The road to redemption begins at Leigh's Indoor Sports Centre on March 19 under the Frank Maloney banner, against Manchester's Karl Place.

Saville, still the reigning Midlands champion, and his team have gone back to basics for the fight and are leaving nothing to chance.

He said: "This is for me now, I just want to prove that I have still got it to myself and no-one else. They will all be talking about me after this.

"I have done my homework on this lad and all I know he is going in there to box the distance, whereas I go in to bang and that is that.

"I hope he can handle that."

Going back to Fellows takes it back to where it all started for 'the Bomber,' an original part of a five-strong stable that came to prominence in the late 1990's.

It churned out British title contenders Jimmy Vincent and Malcolm Melvin from Birmingham, along with Midland champions Christian Brady from the second city and Wolverhampton's Alex Mason.

Saville is all that remains of the old 'band' and his reunion with his former mentor has got the old fire burning.

He said: "Paul's technical work is brilliant, and we have gone back to that now. It's just me, Paul and my brother Craig on the fast pads and it's been unbelievable.

"I have had seven weeks notice, training is going brilliant and that is making all the difference."
