Rangers winger Reid seeks revenge
Stafford Rangers winger Levi Reid has warned Saturday's opponents Blyth Spartans "we owe you one" as the team prepare to make the long trip to Northumberland.
Stafford Rangers winger Levi Reid has warned Saturday's opponents Blyth Spartans "we owe you one" as the team prepare to make the long trip to Northumberland.
The 26-year-old has bad memories of his last trip to Croft Park, as he was sent off when Rangers tumbled out of the FA Trophy in a 2-0 defeat last November.
Now the two will face off again in Blue Square North action, with the visitors facing an arduous 220-mile each journey to play the game.
Last time fans stumped up the cash to pay for an overnight stay in nearby Washington the night before the match, but this time the squad will brave the journey in one day.
But Reid insists the team will come flying out of the traps, and also has his own score to settle.
He said: "I felt hard done by last time, all I can remember is that we both went in for a challenge and the next thing I knew there was about three players on top of me!
"We are looking forward to going up there, they knocked us out of the trophy so we owe them one really. We have hit a good run of form lately and things seem to be going for us."
The Stafford-born wide man, who started his career at Port Vale, returned to the club last August after six months out of the game, some two years since leaving the club to play in the Football League with Macclesfield.
Reid moved onto Oxford United in the summer of 2008 but left just a month later to care for his sick son Cruise, who was admitted to Stafford Hospital with a long-running virus.
Now his child is back to full health, the Rangers winger is looking to book his ticket back into the Football League with his displays on the pitch.
He said: "The main thing for me was getting my fitness back, I have done that now and it's paying off. All I really want is a full season under my belt.
"Getting back into the Football League is the aim, it's the same for every player. All I can do is play well for Stafford Rangers and, if a club comes in, then great."
