Bobby Wilson will answer an SOS call from Stafford Rangers for the derby against AFC Telford at Marston Road - just hours before leaving for a new life in Australia.
The former captain has already left the club after accepting a season-long deal with Stirling Lions in the second tier of football Down Under, and leaves on a flight at 5am tomorrow morning.
But Rangers have been left in dire straits after the departure of their skipper and now midfielder Jake Moult, who is signing for Blue Square North rivals Alfreton.
Another midfield option in former Wolves' player Tony Dinning is injured, so the club have been left with little option then to ask Wilson to lead the team one last time tonight.
The 21-year-old has agreed to aid the cause, and assistant manager Darren Read is one of many who are grateful.
He said: "Tony is still in a lot of pain, and we just can't play him if he is nowhere near fit. Bobby has agreed to help us out this last time, he has put his own career and his move on hold to help the club out.
"It's a measure of the sort of lad he is and he will be sadly missed."
Moult ends a 15-month stint at Marston Road to join former Leek Town and Rangers team-mate Ben Mills at Alfreton, and is expected to be put under contract until the end of the season.
The 20-year-old midfielder leaves with the understanding of the assistant boss.
Read said: "Jake has been a good servant to the club and we are really sorry to see him go. But Alfreton have given him a contract until the end of the season and we haven't got anything left in the coffers to offer him any more money."
Despite a week of upheaval with the playing staff, Read warns that Rangers will not roll over for their rivals after issuing a rallying cry to the team.
He said: "If the game goes for 110 minutes the boys will still be fighting at the full-time whistle. It doesn't matter what they throw at us, we will try and suck it up then look to catch them on the counter-attack.
"We have got our pride to play for and, where we are in the table, we are not out of the woods and need the points."
