Wolves speedway legend Peter Karlsson could be poised for a return to the club – in 2011 at the age of 41.

Karlsson skippered the Parrys International Wolves to the Elite League crown in 2009, but fell victim to the team building points limit and has been loaned to Belle Vue for the forthcoming season.

Wolves, effectively forced to axe one of their top three of Karlsson, 24-year-old Fredrik Lindgren and Tai Woffinden, aged 19, chose to stick with youth.

But team manager Peter Adams, speaking at the Parrys holiday brochure launch in Cheslyn Hay, revealed the Swedish ace might well return to Monmore Green next year to sign off his days in British racing.

Adams said: "He'll definitely finish his career at Wolverhampton. He was bitterly disappointed with the decision, but you've got to think about the future. I'm afraid there's no room for any sentiment.

"But he knows the door is open again 12 months down the road. All I've got to do now is persuade him to have a four-point average when he does it!"

Karlsson is a huge terrace favourite at Monmore, having ridden 13 of his British campaigns for Wolves.

A swansong season, especially if slotted in without the club having to sacrifice Lindgren or Woffinden, would be immensely popular with the fans of the 2009 champions.

Adams said: "There have been one or two periods when he's not been riding for us and we've wanted him and he couldn't, or wouldn't, come.

"Particularly I'm thinking about halfway through 2008 when Wolves finished bottom. That was a call to arms that went unanswered.

"But other than that, he's been fantastic for us."
