Skipper sets double figure target

Stafford Rangers captain Bobby Wilson has set himself a New Year's resolution of hitting double figures in the scoring stakes before the season is out.

The skipper has already hit six goals this season despite spending most of the campaign at centre-half, and stands one shy of top scorer Nick Wellecomme's haul of seven so far.

It's a sign of how far the 21-year-old has come since taking the armband in the summer and Wilson is not stopping there.

The former Nottingham Forest junior is looking to kick onwards and upwards along with his club in 2010.

He said: "A few more goals would be nice to get and it certainly would put Nick under pressure!

"But, to be serious, it's hard to imagine me ending up with the same amount of goals as a centre-forward.

"I do set myself a target though, I put it at 10 for this season and with six already that is a realistic aim.

"I am not far off already and I feel like I will get there."

Rangers come into the year looking to put a run of results together that can put some serious daylight between the club and the relegation places.

Chris Brindley's side have a three point buffer and lie 16th as it stands, despite not playing since Boxing Day, but every team below them has at least a game in hand.

But captain Wilson has told his team-mates that with a New Year comes a clean slate – and the opportunity to kick on and improve in the second-half of the season.

He said: "It's a New Year, a new start and let's get things rolling properly.

"We need to hit the ground running, we are just over the halfway point of the season gone and the games left could make all the difference for us. We can't be happy with where we are, because for me we are a top half team.

"Our goal for this year should be consistency, which is what has let us down in the past and that is what we should be working on."
