Wellecomme's warning for Rangers
Stafford Rangers top scorer Nick Wellecomme has warned that the club's league position may flatter to deceive even if the football is pretty on the eye.
The seven-goal striker rates the current side as the best footballing side he has played in, since coming to the club as an unknown from Newcastle Town in March 2008.
But for all their plaudits Rangers remain in the relegation mire after two game call-offs over the festive season, with a trip to Redditch and a home game against local rivals AFC Telford on New Years Day both falling foul of the weather.
To make matters worse, most of those at the bottom have games in hand on Chris Brindley's side and in the case of Northwich - a place and two points below in 17th - a clear five games more.
Wellecomme admits the team are not getting the rewards they deserve, but knows points are all that matter in the end.
He said: "Since I came to Stafford when the likes of Neil Grayson and Kevin Street were still here, this is the best footballing side I have played in. It's a shame that we are not picking up the points we deserve, because everyone is giving 110 per cent for the cause.
"It just doesn't seem to be paying off at the minute, I don't know if a lot of that is down to luck but some say you make your own luck. We have got to be careful, we have played at least a couple of games more than a lot of the teams down there with us and when they all catch up who knows what position we could be in.
"The sooner we can get started the better."
Wellecomme, along with the rest of the Rangers squad, has been left to kick his heels after the two cancellations saw the team out of action since the Boxing Day defeat at AFC Telford.
The call off at Redditch two days later on the Bank Holiday Monday particularly stuck in his throat.
He said: "We are all disappointed that the games where called off, particularly the one at Redditch, because everyone had got there prepared to play and it wasn't until then that we found out that it was off. We have all worked very hard to keep our fitness levels up, but we want to get back into action.
"We have had a little break now to recharge our batteries and we can go into the New Year ready to get started. Maybe we will end up more refreshed as a result, ready to regroup and kick on."
