Decision time for caretaker boss
Kidderminster Harriers caretaker manager John Finnigan will meet with chairman Barry Norgrove today before deciding whether to apply for the job on a permanent basis.
The clock is ticking in the race for the Harriers hotseat, as the deadline for interested managers has been set for the close of play this evening.
Finnigan, assisted by senior player Dean Bennett, has filled the void since Mark Yates and his No 2 Neil Howarth left the club before the start of the festive schedule, recording a 2-0 win at home to Chester and a 2-1 defeat at Rushden & Diamonds so far.
The acting boss has continued to keep his cards close to his chest when pressed about staking his claims for the job permanently, but decision time is at hand - if the 33-year-old doesn't apply now the job will go to someone else.
With that in mind, Finnigan and Norgrove will meet in a special summit to see where they go from here.
The caretaker said: "I am still not really sure what's going on to be honest, I will speak to the chairman by the end of the day and see where he wants to go with it.
"That is as far as it has gone at the moment, because I haven't spoken to him. Until I know his views on the matter, that will be as far as I have thought about it, it's my job to keep things ticking over and that is what I have done.
"If the club want me to carry on then great but, if not, there is a good squad for a new manager to come in and takes us forward.
"I have really enjoyed being the boss, the club have been great to me. I have had the job on my mind 24 hours a day, and whatever happens from here it has been a great experience."
Finnigan could even end up as player/manager if he goes for the job full-time, as the midfielder has no intentions of hanging up his boots just yet.
He said: "When I signed here in the summer, I never expected this to come up, I came as a player and I still believe I can do a job on the pitch for another year or two.
"That hasn't changed - I still want to play football."
