Wellecomme gunning for Telford
Stafford Rangers top scorer Nick Wellecomme has voiced his intention to gun down rivals AFC Telford over the festive season and get himself right back among the goals.
The seven-goal striker has endured a lean patch after an extended period out with a back injury, and last notched at Corby on October 24.
But the 25-year-old is near to fully fit after two straight starts under his belt, but the search for his first strike since returning to the side goes on.
Now the forward has targeted another glut in the triple-header coming up, Boxing Day's derby at Telford followed by the return game at Marston Road on New Years Day with the visit of relegation rivals Redditch sandwiched in on Bank Holiday Monday.
But first up is the Bucks, and Wellecomme has the opposition goal in his sights.
He said: "I am hoping to notch again over the Christmas period, no doubt about it. I should have had at least two more, but one got given to Bobby Wilson and the other to Levi Reid. They should have been mine, well at least one should have. But, unfortunately, there is not much in the way of a dubious goals panel at this level.
"It's time to get back among the goals and I will be looking to do that starting with Telford."
Wellecomme returned to the club this time last year and is one of the few to have played in last year's Boxing Day and New Years Day double-header against Telford, coming on as a sub in the second-half at Marston Road in the first game.
Most were aghast when a skeletal Rangers side stunned their hosts with a 1-0 away win in the return game, but Wellecomme thinks it will be not such a big ask against the ninth-placed Bucks this time.
He said: "Telford are not having the best run of form at the moment, so hopefully we can capitalise on it. We love to win games anyway, but to beat our local rivals would make everyone's Christmas. You don't have to tell me what it would mean as I am a hometown lad.
"Boxing Day and New Years Day we will be looking to turn them over, no doubt about it. All three games are ones that we could well win and the points could push us up the league a bit."
