Yates, who has been in charge at Aggborough since 2006, has been given permission to speak to Cheltenham, where he spent five years as a player in between two playing spells with Harriers.

Harriers chairman Barry Norgrove said: "I've been approached by Cheltenham Town and Mark would like the opportunity to speak with them. He wants to see what they have to say so we have given him permission."

Robins chairman Paul Baker: "This does not necessarily make him the front-runner as we will be meeting to consider all the candidates within the next few days."
